Jason Peck began his driving career on track in the spring of 2005 but his affliction for high performance cars goes back to his childhood. He started out on 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers, then moving on to dune buggies and eventually to road going cars. Everything had to go faster, look better, and be more unique than the last project. In 2004 he purchased what would be his first of many track vehicles, a 1993 Mustang 5.0. The few mods he made were significant and purposeful for driving. After piloting the Mustang for 3 years and over 50 track weekends, an unfortunate engine failure led to the Mustang finding a new home. In the mean time various Hondas filled the void in track transportation until finally a 2003 Corvette Z06 was acquired to replace the power of the V8 Mustang.
Having attended over 15 track events in his first year, Jason was on the fast track to instructing. He began in the fall of 2005 on probationary basis, but immediately knew that was his next step in his driving career. The following year was met with new challenges and a whole new form of learning the art of instructing. By attending all 3 levels of instructor clinics with NASA’s Mid-Atlantic region it became clear to officials within the NASA organization that Jason was serious about his role as an instructor. So much so that he was presented with the regions Instructor Of The Year award for the 2006 season.
During that first year of instructing many strides were taken in developing a hand signal system for in car instruction. This started out as a resource for instructing in open cockpit cars or cars with non-muffled exhaust systems. In the summer of 2008 it really payed off in the successful instruction of a deaf student at Summit Point Raceway under a trail basis. The set of hand signal instructions is currently being revised and improved upon with intentions of making it a standardized way of instructing hearing impaired students.
More recently the racing bug has caught up with Jason and efforts are in the works to acquire a car more suitable for racing than the Corvette.
